CHALLENGE

How to lead mayors to take the first step towards prioritising their public policies to strengthen their agenda?

The UNDP is in charge of accompanying Colombian Mayors in the planning of their government. However, it is difficult to communicate with them and cross the ego barrier so they feel supported and welcome UNDP advice.

We designed the experience for the kick-off event, converting all the key UNDP concepts into visual elements to let the data speak for itself.

A STRONG STORY

A great Mayor is not made overnight, it’s made in many nights and many mornings.

This story allowed us to give structure to the type of communication needed between UNDP and the mayors. We defined UNDP as the coach who knows the tricks to win but requires his team of Mayors to train daily to acquire those skills and apply them. Therefore we defined that the event should be a workshop and not just a presentation.

Visualize
What is the future each one seeks
Understand
Where each one is located today
Plan
The steps towards that future

EXPERIENCE STRUCTURE

An event structured around 3 key activities

We designed an experience for Mayors to explore each step towards their best term.

VISUALIZING

An interactive welcome

This module generated an atmosphere of trust and give a more didactic than informative mood to the event. With revealing and alarming data, we called the attention of the Mayors and interested them in participating in the activities.

UNDERSTAND

Prioritisation Made Visual

During the presentation and using the rocks, pebbles and sand analogy, Mayors understand on a very simple and visual way that prioritisation is the key for success during their terms.*For the presentation, this demonstration is intended to be made analogically

UNDERSTAND

Storytelling based team activity

Through a series of situation/ story setting with punctuated questions and answers, mayors worked in groups to avoid cheating and motivate participation. Each mayor could read a question with its answers for the rest of the table.

UNDERSTAND

Transparent And Straightforward Results

The blueprint we designed to fill with sticky points allowed to clearly and effectively visualize the strengths and weaknesses of each Mayor immediately. In the end, the mayors had a clear plan of actions to prioritize.

CALL TO ACTION

Plan commitments and decisions

Each box defines in a concrete and clear way, the actions to be prioritized by the Mayors. By breaking down actions into smaller commitments, it is easier for mayors to understand what they need to prioritize and what specific steps they need to take to achieve it.
